Get Started: Watercolor Painting

Watercolor painting is a beautiful and versatile medium that allows you to create stunning works with unique fluidity and transparency. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to refine your skills, understanding the basics of watercolor can open up a world of creative possibilities.

At its core, watercolor painting involves using water-soluble pigments to create art on paper. The beauty of this medium lies in its ability to produce soft washes, vibrant colors, and intricate details. To get started, you’ll need a few essential supplies: high-quality watercolor paints, a variety of brushes, and watercolor paper designed to handle the water without warping.

One of the fundamental techniques in watercolor is mastering the wash, which involves applying a layer of diluted paint to create a smooth background. Other techniques include wet-on-wet, where wet paint is applied to wet paper, and wet-on-dry, where wet paint is applied to dry paper, allowing for different effects and textures.

If you’re eager to dive into the world of watercolor, Pier 11 Studio is excited to offer a Basic Watercolor class on March 1st, 2025.
