Exploring Watercolor: A Day at Pier 11 Studio
Today, Pier 11 Studio buzzed with creativity as we hosted our first Basic Watercolor class, led by talented instructor Lindsey Aarts. The class explored the essential fundamentals of painting with pigment and water, diving into engaging exercises designed to enhance their skills. Outside, the fog enveloped the studio, presenting more than 50 shades of gray, adding to the atmosphere of artistic exploration.
As the day progressed, so did our students. Each participant transformed their approach to watercolor, learning to harness the fluidity of the medium. A highlight of the day was a lunchtime field trip to Imogen Gallery, where the stunning watercolor paintings of George Wilson were on exhibition through March 3rd, 2025.
During the gallery visit, students marveled at Wilson's work, particularly a series of six works titled “Ginko.” They discussed how the pieces seemed to glow, offering a captivating presence that resonated with each viewer.

The conversation shifted to the simplicity and power of suggestion in art, emphasizing how we bring our own interpretations to the work. One standout piece was Wilson's "Hummingbird in Jessica's Garden," where the elegant lines captured the vibrancy and movement of the hummingbird, demonstrating the beauty of minimalism in art.
